Volunteer

Have fun. Volunteer your skills. Support your alma mater!

The spirit of Mills—and our connections to this beautiful, historic campus—stays alive with the dedication and efforts of our alum volunteers. Their work makes it possible for the Office of Alumnae Relations to present Reunion every year, publish Class Notes in the Quarterly, and hold events for Mills alums around the world. In turn, they get to interact with other graduates outside of their class year or cohort, maintaining the magical madness of Mills.

Our formal volunteer programs are listed below; click to see names of current participants. If you have further questions or wish to contribute in some other way, please email us at mills.alumnaerelations@northeastern.edu.

Class Secretary Program

The class secretary plays a key volunteer role by cultivating friendships and affinities among classmates and strengthening connections between Mills graduates and the Office of Alumnae Relations. Tasks for this position include writing an annual class letter, collecting notes from classmates for that letter and for the Mills Quarterly, planning for Reunion, and encouraging peers to attend and volunteer at regional events.

Current class secretaries are listed below; if you do not see your class year and are interested in volunteering, please contact the Office of Alumnae Relations at mills.alumnaerelations@northeastern.edu.

Class Agent Program

The class agent inspires support to legacy Mills programs and new ones that promote the mission of education and leadership for women and gender non-binary students—such as the Mills Institute—through the writing of one mailed letter on an annual basis and ongoing thank-you notes or emails throughout the year. It’s a great chance to share your Mills stories with classmates, and to network with peers of yours you might not have known on campus.

Below is our current list of class agents; if you do not see your class year and are interested in volunteering, please contact the Office of Alumnae Relations at mills.alumnaerelations@northeastern.edu. Agents are more than welcome to collaborate with a co-agent or committee.

Reunion Committees

Each Mills class celebrates its reunion every five years during an extended weekend of activities that reconnect alumnae with each other and Mills. Reunioning alumnae volunteers prepare for their own Reunion by working with the College’s Office of Alumnae Relations on Reunion activities, attendance, and fundraising efforts.

Alumnae from class years ending in 4 or 9: It’s your turn!

Reunion 2024 will take place September 26 through 29. Mark your calendar and participate in the Reunion Planning Committee or a 50th Reunion Committee. Volunteers are needed in the Bay Area and across the country.

To join either of the two volunteer groups below, please contact Chelsea Ekholm, alumnae engagement manager, at c.ekholm@northeastern.edu or 510.430.2362.

Alum Engagement Committee

The Alum Engagement Committee (AEC) is a newer group of volunteers that seeks to sustain and cultivate relationships between Mills College and its alums—including alums of Mills College at Northeastern University—by supporting the work of the College’s Office of Alumnae Relations. The committee helps identify alum interests and consults on development of new engagement opportunities, programs, and models. Members participate in committee meetings, provide volunteer assistance on special projects and events, and help recruit other volunteers.

Core leaders are Lynette Castille-Hall ’75, Dawn Cunningham ’85, Lisa Kremer ’90, Jillian Mosley ’18, and Amanda Page Harper ’09. Alumnae Relations staff liaisons are Nikole Hilgeman Adams, Kim Baker ’95, and Chelsea Ekholm ’13. For more information about the AEC, please contact mills.alumnaerelations@northeastern.edu.
