Women represent half of video game players but only a third of the industry’s employees. Who are these outliers, what inspired them to enter the gaming world, and what barriers have they faced? For the spring issue, the Mills Quarterly spoke to alums who’ve played an integral role in the industry, working for firms like Disney, Oculus, and Nintendo, and in positions such as voiceover actress, journalist, and programmer.

Celebrate the Class of 2025
Cheer on our legacy Mills students as they cross the stage at Commencement on Sunday, April 27, accompanied by the first cohort of Oakland-based Northeastern graduate students. Enjoy breakfast, robe up for the alum procession, and sit for lunch with graduates and their families at Reinhardt Alumnae House. Bent Twigs are encouraged to take pictures with their graduating relatives, who will be featured in the Quarterly magazine’s summer issue.

Timely lectures on science, art
Hear from esteemed earth scientist and historian Naomi Oreskes, who spoke as part of the Russell Women in Science Leadership Program, on the importance of having a variety of voices in the scientific community for science to work properly and for truth to be revealed. In a separate presentation, Art Museum Director Stephanie Hanor walked an audience of alums through the history of the museum, including its major pieces and artist faculty members, as part of a series of events leading up to the museum’s centennial celebration on October 4.

Giving Day has its moment!
Thank you to Mills alums who participated in last week’s Giving Day at Northeastern, raising thousands to support activities and programs on the Oakland campus. Most notably, alums made gifts to the Dean’s Fund for Mills’ Greatest Need, the Mills College Art Museum, the Mills Institute, and the Mills College Community Farm during this day of celebration on campus and across the global network.

Save the date for the AAMC meeting
Alums should look for an invitation from the Alumnae Association of Mills College (AAMC) to attend its annual meeting virtually on Saturday, June 21, at 10:00 am PT. Want to step up your participation in the association? Apply for a seat on the Nominating Committee or the Board of Governors (BOG) by April 18. Election results will be announced prior to the meeting.
